?Why So Serious

The Latest Addition to the Batman Sequel Takes the Box Office by Storm

By: Aly El Attal

The Dark Knight was probably the most anticipated movie of the year. The movie’s huge success was partly due to the worldwide success of its prequel, Batman Begins. Its success was also due to the publicity of the movie, especially through Heath Ledger’s death. While the movie was being filmed, Heath Ledger had been working hard on experimenting with voices and laughs for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

In an interview, Ledger said that the Joker was a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy.” Several reviewers have criticized the movie because they believe that Heath Ledger’s death had a lot to do with his role as the Joker and believe that he took sleeping pills in order to put on a good show. This, however, does not change the fact that the movie was a huge box-office hit.

The Dark Knight is one of the most successful movies in history. Since its release on July 18th, the movie has grossed over $518,070,111 in the US, making it the second highest grossing movie of all time after Titanic. The New York Daily News called the movie “twisted, tortured, terrifying - and terrific.”

The Dark Knight could easily be considered one of the greatest movies of all time. Heath Ledger’s role as the Joker is unforgettable and truly remarkable. He vividly portrays a freakish, maniacal murderer in his actions, his voice, and his laugh. We will all be waiting for the release of the next Batman movie, in which Johnny Depp is expected to be taking on the role of the Riddler.
